The Investment and Economic Development Unit continue to monitor retail precincts within the municipality.
In 2020, the Unit began conducting audits of local shopping strips with a minimum of five tenancies. This included approximately 1700 ground floor businesses across 66 retail precincts.
Vacancies and changes to businesses are recorded to monitor trends and assist with strategic planning. The data collected allows us to measure economic vibrancy with reference to the macroeconomic context.
Originally, the audits were conducted every 6 months to determine any micro-changes. From 2023 audits are being undertaken annually.
A summary of the information is available below in the form of downloadable precinct profiles. The profiles have been created to display information about Whitehorse as a municipality and then categorised as West, Central and East to allow for more detailed information to be presented.
