Business Name: Sissy's Bix
Address: 7 Canterbury Road, Blackburn.
Meet Sylvia, founder and owner of Sissy's Bix in Blackburn. Sylvia's journey is inspiring, as a young teenager who emigrated from Austria and had a career change later in life. Sissy's Bix has recently celebrated 25 years in business!
Sylvia shared the story behind her business including that “Handmade Chocolate is ‘food of the gods’. A career change from working for 25 years in welfare, Sylvia started making continental style biscuits & petit fours (at the suggestion of her daughters). The kitchen being one of her happy places it wasn’t hard to consider this move. Eventually this progressed to now mainly running chocolate and biscuit wholesale and classes and a small retail outlet.
Meeting a cross-section of participants in our workshops and being able to share her knowledge and skills is rewarding.
What keeps things fun and welcoming for Sylvia?
The aroma of fresh baked biscuits and melting chocolate usually creates a warm welcome- of course the sight of a beautiful hand made chocolate is quite enticing. Sylvia share that "we appreciate the positive feedback from our customers and thank the repeat customers and local establishments for their support.
Sylvia gets inspired by competition, seeing what others are doing- it has grown to be a very competitive market. The beauty of being a sole trader is your pace is dictated by your customers’ attraction and satisfaction in your products.
